- Knowledge organization
The organization of information and knowledge involves research activities related to library science and information science (LIS). Regardless of the application domain, knowledge management ranges from the description of the document aimed at indexing and classification carried out in libraries, databases, archives, etc.
- Digital library and digital preservation
The digital library is a collection of digital objects that can include text, video, audio and video material, stored on electronic media, together with tools for organizing, storing, recovering files and multimedia content present in the library collection.
- Controlled vocabularies
Controlled vocabularies are ordered systems of words and phrases used to index the contents and / or to retrieve the content of documents through navigation or search. Controlled vocabularies are useful for organizing information and providing terminology for cataloging and retrieving information. They are used in subject indexing systems, classification schemes, subject headings, thesauri, taxonomies and other forms of knowledge organization systems. In LIS, controlled vocabularies are a selected index of words and phrases, which are used to mark units of information (document or job) so that they can be easily retrieved through a search.
- Indexing and classification
Indexing is the process of evaluating information and assigning indexing terms using a controlled vocabulary that helps to find and access the document. A controlled indexing language uses terms that are used by the indexer to describe the content of a document.
- Classification
Classification is the process of systematically organizing concepts or other objects into groups or categories / facets of shared elements according to established criteria. Classification uses terms to define classes.
- Corpus linguistics
A corpus can be defined as a systematic collection of documents (both written and spoken). Corpora linguistics is the study of language expressed through samples of text / document representing “the real world”. Originally handled, corpora are currently largely managed by automated processes.
